This has been our 4th short visit since 2018, and the site has gone from strength to strength. It’s set in a wonderful location with panoramic views over Grantham, which are stunning. Although it looks secluded on a map, its position near the Harrowby Road, makes it very easy to access both local town facilities, the train station for the super-fast link to London, and the A1. Grantham has tea shops (Teaspoon and The Garden Yard are our favourites), and restaurants in abundance, (Prezzo and the Cinqo Lounge to mention but two). There are also some very well regarded pubs in the area. Herigerbi really is a great base from which to access all of these, and more. If heritage is your thing, Belton House, Woolsthorpe Manor, and Londonthorpe Woods offer three great trips out. A bit further afield, but still a short drive away, is Belvoir castle, which is growing all its offerings and makes another fab day out.
As to the site itself, we love the atmosphere of relaxed and welcoming kindness, and the facilities are immaculate. Every sink has proper hot water. Though I haven’t used the shower, I have heard good things about it, and again, when I looked in, it was sparkling clean. Dogs are welcome, as are children, and there is an atmosphere of acceptance and good humour that just pervades the campsite. It’s such a pleasure to sit and listen to the birdsong and trees as they rustle in the wind, and on a sunny day, wear sunscreen, as this site is sunny and warm. Just perfect to top up your vitamin D levels!
Despite being something of an insomniac, I always sleep very well at Herigerbi, (even through one night when the harvest was being bought under spotlights, in to my surprise), and wake refreshed. I think it’s the fresh air, the space, and the thoughtfulness of the owners.
When we started staying here I had not long experienced a traumatic injury, and I was worried about the slope of the site. But the ground is even, and the barn toilet and kitchen have no lip, which makes is just that much easier to navigate, especially at night.
For those with little children, both toilets are reassuringly spacious so there’s no squeezing into a tiny cubicle to oversee little ones. The basins are also lovely and wide. There are some games, a football and the odd book in the kitchen, with loads of space to play, both on the field (where visibility is very good), and in the woods, (where younger children will require closer supervision).
Herigerbi has a lovely minimalism that has just the right amount of everything you need, without overwhelming you with “stuff”. There’s always washing up liquid, a cloth and soap, and cleaning agents are available but kept up high. Paper towels never run out, so there’s no grubbing about with a soggy old hand towel.
Thanks to all the thought that has gone into this campsite, and the goodwill it immediately generates in campers, people are always friendly, tolerant and good humoured. Even the dogs are well behaved!
So, after 4 stays, I feel confident to highly recommend this campsite, and wish anyone who reads this a lovely stay.
