Countryside site just a short distance from the Norfolk Broads. Can’t decide between a bit of farm life, bright city lights and refreshing coastal explores? Ditch the dithering and pack the whole lot in to one stay at Two Jays Farm: this small, family-friendly farm is in Horstead, a 20-minute drive from Norwich and half an hour from Norfolk’s beaches.
You’ll be in good company here – in the adjacent fields your neighbours will be the farm's resident horses, goats and chickens, and you're welcome to bring along a four-legged pal of your own if you've got a dog that fancies the trip.
Canine companion or no, this is a fine spot for getting out for a walk. Set off on foot or cycle along woodland paths and riverbanks to take in sights like the Bure Valley Railway, Horstead Mill on the River Bure (where you can jump into the water for a wild swim if it's getting a tad warm) and pretty market towns along the way. If you fancy getting out on the water instead you can hire paddleboards and kayaks on site.
Your reward at the end of a lengthy walk – perhaps a good feed at one of the nearby foodie pubs? The nearest is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and there are a few more to choose from – along with some takeaways and a supermarket – in nearby Coltishall village, which is a 20-minute walk away (or a few minutes’ drive).
Things to do
Being right on the Norfolk Broads, Two Jays is well-placed for a range of water activities – you can go fishing, sailing, or rent kayaks and canoes for adventures on the water… or leave the navigating up to someone else and opt for a boat trip instead.
For activities on dry land, visit BeWILDerwood (10-minute drive), a forest park full of trails, treehouses, bridges, zipwires and slides. There’s more action at leisure and shopping complex Wroxham Barns (10 minutes), where there’s a kids' farm and funfair alongside boutiques, craft studios and eateries.
If you’re heading to the coast, combine beach days with some animal spotting; there’s a zoo in Cromer (half an hour) and a SEA LIFE Centre at Great Yarmouth (40 minutes).
There’s a bunch of parks nearby if you’re looking for big open spaces for pleasant ambles, picnics, and kids’ play areas. Try Waterloo Park (15 minutes), Catton Park (15 minutes), Earlham Park (half an hour) or Eaton Park (half an hour).
For a bit of culture, visit the impressive Blickling Estate (15 minutes) and Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate (25 minutes). Or combine a trip to Norwich (20 minutes) with a look at the cathedral and Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery.
