Big-hitting attractions in this corner of Norfolk include Sandringham Estate (25 minutes’ drive), where you can make like the royals by touring Sandringham House, exploring the lavishly planted gardens and taking afternoon tea in the really-rather-posh café. Norman-era Ely Cathedral (45 minutes) also draws the crowds with its ornate architecture, 19th-century painted ceiling and Stained Glass Museum.
To blow away any cobwebs, head for Heacham (35 minutes) for bracing walks on the Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path or a potter on the sandy beach. Big-sister resort Hunstanton (40 minutes) is a busier spot, with amusement arcades and fairground rides on the lively promenade.
